Hello!!
Diving right in – we all know sleep is important and foundational to current health and longevity.
But, in spite of knowing that – are you making it a priority?
If not – perhaps the article I’m sharing today will motivate you – this one is from Nature – it’s a 3-4 minute read:
Sleep Deprivation Disrupts Memory – Here’s Why
It’s a quick read, so I’ll let you dive into the details – but net, net – not getting enough sleep or sound sleep can cause memory loss.
So, if you find yourself being more forgetful and jumping all the way to “am I getting Alzheimers?” – reflect on your sleep hygiene and habits first.
Or, for my teens reading this (and/or parents with students) – if you find that school is abnormally challenging – here’s a gentle nudge to skip the all-nighter to cram before that exam and sleep instead. This study shows you’re not really giving yourself a leg up by cramming – because the lack of sleep will actually prevail in your ability to recall the information you’ve crammed.
I know you think staying up later to get more done is helpful – but per this study (among others) – you’ll actually be more efficient, effective and show up better for the thing that needs to get done, by choosing the sleep instead.
I suggest going back and reading a previous Sunday Wisdom: The Sleep Routine I Swear By as a refresher or if you missed it the first time. As a reminder – ensuring quality sleep typically starts when you wake up 😉
Sending positive thoughts and sweet dreams for your week ahead! 😴
Set your intentions. Breathe deep. Be kind to you!
xoxo
